Software and Database DesignRemote Survey Results In MinutesIf you employ surveyors who have to send and receive work by telephone, post or fax, this newly developed application can save both time and money. 4G Technology Ltd in partnership with Corehard Ltd have developed a phone PDA System which allows the surveyor to complete a form on the PDA, take a photograph and automatically e-mail these results back to base. These are stored in a central database and can also be displayed on a linked website. This technology is currently being used by Corehard Ltd, the leading company in road repair inspection. Surveys are commissioned by a Local Authority, a Utility Company or a Contractor. Each of these parties who have an interest in the road repair can log on to the web site using their own username and a secure password to see the results of only those surveys they have commissioned. This means that surveyors do not need to make periodic trips back to the office to pick up data, nor will they have to decipher smudgy faxes. Apart from improvements in accuracy, surveyors will be more productive and need not worry about carrying sufficient survey forms around with them. The software uses Microsoft Windows Mobile technology and .NET software to produce a custom application that combines flexibility with simplicity. The system brings together all the technologies which are now available in PDA’s – programmable data entry, cameras and the facility to send e-mails - to provide an application which is highly flexible and which can be customised to meet the requirements of most businesses which use outside surveyors or inspectors.
